About LookMyIP
LookMyIP is an independent site that publishes free network diagnostic tools and reference material explaining how the underlying protocols work. It covers the everyday questions that come up when something on a network is not behaving: where an IP address geolocates, why a domain resolves to the wrong server, why mail is being rejected, and whether a certificate is about to expire.
The site exists because the same handful of checks kept requiring five different websites, most of which paywalled the ASN field, capped free lookups at ten a day, or demanded an email address before returning a result. Every field LookMyIP retrieves is shown immediately, on the same page, with no account and no API key.
Who builds it
LookMyIP is built and maintained by Ajay Gupta, a software developer working on web infrastructure. It started in 2024 as a personal IP lookup page and grew into the current set of tools as each new diagnostic question came up in practice.
It is a one-person project, not a company. There is no team, no funding round, and no sales department. That means responses to email take a few days, but it also means nothing on the site exists because a stakeholder asked for it.

Where the data comes from
LookMyIP does not maintain its own geolocation database. Results are retrieved live from the providers below, or queried directly from the authoritative source over DNS, RDAP or TLS. Nothing is cached beyond what the record's own TTL permits.

What the results can and cannot tell you
Being straight about accuracy matters more than looking impressive, so: IP geolocation identifies a network, not a person or a building. Country-level accuracy runs around 99%. City-level is roughly 80–90% and is typically correct to within 25–50 miles. Street-level precision is not achievable from an IP address alone, and any site claiming otherwise is showing you the centroid of a region.
Mobile connections are the least reliable case — carrier IPs often register to a regional gateway hundreds of miles from the handset. Corporate VPNs and satellite links behave the same way.
DNS results reflect what a specific resolver returned at a specific moment. Because of caching, GeoDNS and anycast, a different resolver may legitimately return a different answer for the same name at the same time. This is why the propagation checker queries many resolvers rather than one.
If a result looks wrong, it is worth reporting — geolocation databases do carry stale records, and the providers act on corrections. Send details to hello@lookmyip.com.
Editorial standards
Guides on this site are written to be checked. Where a claim involves a specific number — an SPF lookup limit, a default TTL, a port number, a key length — it comes from the relevant RFC or the vendor's own documentation, and the guide says which.
Every article carries a published date, and a last-updated date when it has been revised. Dates are never refreshed to fake recency; if the date has not moved, the content has not changed.
No article on this site is a paid placement. Nobody has paid to be mentioned, recommended, or ranked, and no tool comparison is sponsored.

How the site is funded
LookMyIP costs money to run — geolocation and reputation API credits, bandwidth for the speed test, and server time for every lookup. The site is funded by advertising and by occasional reader donations. It is not funded by selling data, because there is no data to sell: lookups are not retained.
Ads are kept out of the result panels themselves, and the IPs and domains you enter are never shared with advertising partners. The privacy policy sets out exactly which cookies are involved and how to opt out of personalised ads.
Every tool stays free regardless. There is no premium tier planned, and no field is held back for one.
Privacy in one paragraph
LookMyIP does not store the IP addresses or domains you look up. Queries are processed in real time and discarded once the response is sent. Rate limiting (10 lookups per minute per IP) is enforced in memory only and is never written to a database. Analytics are aggregate and pseudonymous. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
